The 5 Best Hotels Near the Sofia International Airport [2023 Update]

If you are planning to spend a few days in Sofia, Bulgaria, getting a good yet fairly priced hotel near the Sofia International Airport (SOF) is the way to go if you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city and also closer to the airport itself.

To help you with that, in today’s article I’m going to share with you the 5 best hotels near the Sofia Airport – so that you know for sure you’ll book a room that you will love.

If you don’t want to go through the entire list, then you should definitely check out my top pick – Ibis Sofia Airport Hotel. A perfect blend of quality and affordability. My favorite!

The nice thing about the Sofia airport is that, even though away from the city center, it’s still in a good area with a fair number of restaurants, shops, banks and car rental companies nearby.

Taxi rides are cheap to the city center from and around the Sofia Airport, while the public transportation options offer a decent alternative as well. The best choice is the metro if you prefer public transportation.

With all these things in mind, let’s check out the best hotels close to the Sofia Airport below!

Hotel 007 – Best budget option

Hotel 007 Near the Sofia Airport

This 3-star hotel is just 3 kilometers away from the airport and offers an airport shuttle, but for a small extra fee (make sure to request it when booking, if needed!)

It’s a small hotel with a lot of character, and also one of the cheapest hotels close to the airport.

Yet, it is a good hotel offering value for the money. No Bond villains, nor any Bond girls are included in 007’s offer, though! I know, meeting a beautiful Bulgarian girl would’ve been a great bonus, but you have the entire city for that.

Although there’s nothing truly fancy about it, in all honesty, the hotel offers exactly what you need: clean rooms with good beds, decent internet and air conditioning for those hot summer days. Laundry services are also available.

In other words: exactly what you need for a shorter stay, especially if proximity to the airport is essential.

Hotel 007 is situated in a quiet area, so you’ll get a good night’s sleep and rest well on the comfortable mattresses.

There are also smaller shops and eateries nearby, as well as a major mall and a Kaufland hypermarket just several minutes away. All in all, a decent hotel in a good area – and one that won’t break the bank!

Ibis Sofia Airport Hotel – My Top Pick

Ibis Hotel Sofia outside

I’ve spent a lot of time in Ibis hotels in many countries and I never had any reasons to complain. Au contraire!

They always have well trained staff, are in a premium location and great food ready to fill your belly – all at more than decent prices.

The same thing goes for the Ibis Sofia Airport hotel, which probably offers the best value for the money of all the hotels.

So if you don’t really need something extremely luxurious and high class, this would definitely be my personal recommendation!

This hotel is also the closest to the airport and you can basically walk from the hotel to the airport if you want to.

If you don’t, you shouldn’t worry as it offers a free airport shuttle service (just make sure you request it when you book your stay using the button below).

However, the fact that it’s so close to the airport means that the surrounding area is not that great in terms of scenic views.

You don’t have shops or restaurants nearby, so this one is better if you are just passing through Sofia or you don’t mind taking a taxi to the city center or more popular areas for exploring Bulgaria’s capital nightlife, for example.

Or just spend all your time at the hotel! They have a great, modern restaurant where you can eat delicious food, the rooms are soundproof so you’ll really get to enjoy your time there and the staff are, as it is always the case of Ibis hotels, extremely friendly and well trained.

The rooms themselves are modern and clean, albeit a bit on the smaller side, the beds are great and there are even options for interconnecting rooms if needed.

All in all, the perfect choice for shorter stays where proximity to the airport is the most important thing for you!

Or if you want to get a bit more in depth with it, I have published a review of Ibis Sofia Airport Hotel.

Metropolitan Hotel Sofia – More Luxury

If you’re looking for some luxury during your stay, we’re starting to take out the big guns from now on.

And we’re starting with the Metropolitan Hotel in Sofia, which is a beautiful 4-star hotel that offers a free airport shuttle upon request when booking.

Although situated on the outskirts of Bulgaria’s capital (so there are few restaurants and shops nearby), you can spend your whole stay inside and never feel the need for anything else.

It has an on-site restaurant with delicious food, a fitness center if you need some exercise and beautiful premises.

The rooms are large and beautiful, elegant and fully equipped for you to enjoy your stay.

Metropolitan Hotel room

You can know that it’s a really good hotel as it holds an amazing average rating on Booking.com: 9 out of 10, based on over 2,700 reviews (at the moment of writing)!

This is extremely good, meaning that the quality of this hotel is incredible and everybody loves it, not just us.

And since it’s usually the cheaper of the “luxury” category hotels, you’re also getting a sweet deal when booking it!

And if you do book it, make sure to get the breakfast too, as it is absolutely delicious! You can pay for breakfast when you get there, but it’s cheaper to book it in advance.

Best Western Premier Sofia Airport Hotel

This is a newer hotel situated extremely close to the airport (just 2 kilometers away), offering free shuttle service and extremely high quality accommodation and overall services.

Just like the Ibis hotel, its proximity to the airport means that it is a bit farther away from the city’s center or any nearby attractions, but its amazing restaurant and everything it offers make up for this.

They have great WiFi here, great friendly staff and huge rooms to enjoy your stay – equipped with tea and coffee makers, minibar and even an ergonomic office if you need some work done while staying there.

Even more, since they’re clearly focused on serving airport guests, there’s an early breakfast option starting from 3AM, in case your plane leaves early.

The hotel itself has been operating for several years now, so everything is still new and modern and in good shape.

At the moment of writing this, it is one of the favorite hotels for couples in Sofia and it’s also rated for the best value in Bulgaria’s capital! So it’s definitely worth checking out.

Novotel Sofia

Last but not least, we have Novotel to recommend for a short stay in Bulgaria’s capital city and close to the Sofia Airport.

It’s actually situated in a premium location, just across the street from an important shopping mall and close to various restaurants and shops.

It also offers a shuttle service if you request it when you book – which should make things easier for you if you have lots of luggage!

The hotel boasts a fitness center, a steam bath, and a restaurant with summer terrace serving international cuisine, as well as very fast internet, and a playground for kids.

The rooms are spacious and beautiful, decorated with taste and offering a panoramic view of the city or the nearby mountains. The rooms have free coffee and mineral water and they’re absolutely perfect.

All in all, this hotel is not one of the cheapest in Sofia, but it’s worth every dollar you spend on it, if you can afford it. Definitely consider it for your next stay.
