Love on the road

The Ultimate Guide to Dating Ukrainian Women

You’re about to read the most comprehensive guide about Ukrainian women, taken from an incredible amount of experience from several people who have spent considerable time in the country. There is no better guide that this if you’re looking for love in Ukraine (or at least an Ukrainian girl).

You can wonder: do Ukrainian girls really need an introduction? They’re some of the most infamous girls in the world. Their stunning beauty, feminine qualities, but also some widespread stereotypes has led to every sane man being innately curious about the women of Ukraine.

If you’re coming from the dating world of Western countries, you’ll be in shock and awe at how different it is in Ukraine or with ladies from this country, even though in the past several years, they have westernized as well. And it’s a good thing.

However, the most shocking thing you’ll probably see will happen when you’re just walking down the street. The streets of cities like Kiev and Odessa will be full of stunning women walking around in beautiful sundresses and high heels, despite the events in their country. At least during the summer – winter is another story.

As far as the local flavors, there’s quite a range. I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many redheads as I have in Ukraine. At the same time, there’s plenty of blondes, brunettes, and jet-blacked hair girls to go around. The majority of them are thin – you won’t find the curves that you would find in places like South America (I mean women from Brazil, Colombia, and even Mexico). But if you’re like me and prefer this type instead, it’s heaven.

With that being said, everyone should be able to find whatever physical preference they have in Ukraine.

Dating Culture

The dating culture in Ukraine is also vastly different than in the West. Once you start meeting some ladies here, you’re in for some surprises – both good and bad.

Let’s start with the good: the women of Ukraine are of the highest quality. You can expect them to put a lot of effort into looking their best at all times, but also in their attitude towards you. In other words, they always bring 100% to the table.

Now, for the bad. Ukraine is a “cold” culture. The reality is that it isn’t necessarily cold, but it’s just not as “fake” as many cultures in the Western world.

It will take some time to get used to. Girls that you date in Ukraine aren’t going to spill their life story on the first date. In fact, it may even take a month or more to get a girl to really start opening up to you. It can be a difficult obstacle to overcome when you’re first acclimating to Ukrainian culture, but with a little bit of “practice” you’ll begin to get the hang of it.

Ukrainian women do not hate their own men (other countries in Eastern Europe do have that stigma). There are some cases where the girls in Ukraine only date other local men… However, these are few and far between. The vast majority of Ukrainian girls are at least open to the idea of dating a foreign fella, but you being the foreigner is not necessarily the advantage it is in other places around the globe.

Is There Any Casual Dating?

Might as well get this out of the way now and say that, despite what you’ve been told, there’s not much casual dating in Ukraine.

It’s still a society that (thankfully) values longer-term relationships with some substance behind them. Certainly, “casual dating” isn’t out of the question. Not every Ukrainian girl wants to get married and have babies TOMORROW.

It’s most important to know that there is not a “one night stand” culture. In the Western world, that’s about all it is these days. This is not the case in Ukraine.

Where to Meet Ukrainian Women

First of all, the English levels in Ukraine have improved dramatically over the last few years, as the country becomes more and more European and less and less Russian. The English level in the major cities, especially in the center, is getting to the “you can have no worries about coming here and only speaking English” levels.

Granted, nightclubs are still loud places, but most girls who are going out in the central areas (especially under 25 or younger), should speak English on a high level – and it will only improve.

Now, you probably know that the current situation in Ukraine with the war and everything is not ideal. Therefore, the best way to meet Ukrainian women – no matter if you are actually in the country or not – is online.

I recommend this website, which has a long tradition in the game and is completely trustworthy. This is the website I always used back when I traveled to Ukraine, and you will find plenty of ladies actively looking for a relationship here. Best part? Relatively low competition and small number of scammers. Still – practice common sense.

The alternative, if you are physically in the country, is to meet them at night (bars/clubs), or meet them during the day (coffee shop/street). But this will be a bit more difficult than choosing the online route.

For example, expect nightlife to vary greatly between the cities in Ukraine. Kiev tends to be pretty dead as far as nightlife goes. It picks up a bit on the weekend days, but contrast it to a place like Kharkiv, which has a spot to go to every night. Odessa has a Las Vegas-esque environment for two months a year, but falls off after that.

Approaching girls during the day is not as uncommon as it is in other countries. If you decide to take this route, it’s worth noting that the summer months tend to skew things in a multitude of ways. You’ll have more men out there, but also more women. This may or may not work for you.

The best advice is this:

If she fancies you, she’ll stop and have a conversation.

It’s really that simple. It’s important not to get too into your head because you see one other guy approaching girls on the street. Or if you get rejected once or twice.

Having friends is also a big bonus, because they can introduce you to single ladies they know. Check out our guide on how to make friends when moving abroad for some tips on how to speed things up in this regard.

The Dating Process Debunked

The 1st Date

Let’s start simple with the first date. Generally speaking, it’s best to take things at a slow pace. The first date should be casual and fun, and nothing over the top!

So what should you do?

A simple coffee or drink is the best thing you can do. Many girls don’t actually drink – contrary to what you might believe about Eastern European women – so coffee is a perfectly good alternative (you can always pick a cafe and have a beer yourself if you’re so inclined – but I strongly recommend you don’t)

Whatever you do, keep this in mind: DO NOT DRINK HARD LIQUOR!

I can’t stress this one enough. A common thing Ukrainian women complain about in regards to their own men is the drinking. Don’t do your best Ukrainian man impression by ordering shots of vodka while on your first date. Stick to simple wines or beer if you choose to partake in drinking booze, but ideally, stay away from alcohol.

The Kiss

Slavic women have this tendency to refuse to kiss you for a very long time. Whereas Latin cultures dictate that you make out within half an hour of meeting, Ukrainian culture goes at a much slower pace.

Yes, you can absolutely kiss a Ukrainian girl on the first date, however… You don’t have to. And don’t consider it a problem if she doesn’t seem open to at least kissing.

And the first time you try, I will personally guarantee that she’s going to turn you down. It’s just part of the thing that many Eastern European women do.

It’s partially because she doesn’t want to feel “easy” and partially because she wants to see how much of a man you are. Are you the guy who gets nervous and jumpy when this happens? Do you take rejection personally?

Ukrainian women will eat you alive if so. Dating in Ukraine is not for the faint-hearted. This refusal of kiss #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is just a massive screen to see if you’re a masculine guy.

The 2nd Date and… WALKS

You can do something a little more upscale for a second date: think drinks and tapas at a cool wine bar or something of the sort. Again, no need for extravagant dinners at this point in the game.

I know everyone reading this wants to learn how to seal the deal, but again, this is too early for Ukrainian girls. If she really likes you, trying to go for it now won’t spook her off, but if she does turn you down, it sets you back, so to speak.

If you’re too aggressive with trying to get her into your bed, she may be hesitant to hop into bed with you on the next date. It’s often a “3-date-rule” kind of culture in Ukraine, so it’s not surprising.

Now, this is probably the most important piece of advice I can give you about Ukrainian women.

They love to walk.

It’s a thing. Some people go on walks for dates. If a Ukrainian girl asks you to go on a walk with her, do it! Even if it’s just for an hour or so in the afternoon, and you don’t do anything else. It’s just a matter of putting in the face time to make her feel comfortable around you.

Go on every walk you possibly can during the courtship process. It will pay huge dividends.

No, the Questions Never End

You’re going to hear the same questions repeated on dates. If you go on dates with multiple girls, you’re going to hear the same questions. Know what’s coming and prepare your answers accordingly.

  • Why are you in Ukraine?
  • Why don’t you like America/London/Australia/wherever you’re from.
  • Are you a sex tourist?
  • What do you think of Ukrainian women?
  • Do you think Ukrainian girls are beautiful?
  • Why do you want a Ukrainian girl?
  • Do you want a wife and kids?

Seriously, you’re going to get asked this on every date. And she’s never going to let up on the first date. Again, it’s another test, though this time it’s a self-defense mechanism.

What’s the best answers to these? It’s hard to say. Sarcasm doesn’t go over as well in Ukraine as it does in the Western world. If you’re too sarcastic you may piss her off. If you lie she’ll be able to see through it.

The best thing I’ve found is just to answer them as truthfully as possible without being explicit.

or answers without giving away the farm. You can’t blame her for protecting herself. She knows the stories about Western men and Ukrainian women, and of course the mail-order bride reputation that comes out of Odessa.

The Elephant In The Room: How Many Dates?

Yeah, it’s the question every man is curious about: how many dates are typical until intimacy?

Three is a good rule of thumb, though obviously there are dozens of other variables that can come into play and impact this. While things don’t happen anywhere near as fast as they do in the Western world, Ukrainian women still have desires. Just take things at a good pace, and usually they’ll happen.

Update:

Honestly, while things still don’t move as fast as they do in the Western world (i.e. it’s pretty unlikely a girl will come straight from online to your apartment), for better or worse, the dating scene is really changing here.

I had a friend visit in April 2024 and in a span of just 8 days, he slept with 2 girls on the first date within a few hours of meeting them. Both were extremely young, between 19-21 years old.

It definitely seems the younger generation is taking the promiscuity and sex-positive culture of the West with open legs arms.

Older Ukrainian women, who did not grow up in that environment, are still very likely to make you wait a few dates before intimacy progresses.

The main point is though, that things are changing and the “rules” are not the same as they used to be.

Relationships With Ukrainian Girls

The great news is that once intimacy happen, things tend to open up a lot more.

You’ll find the women of Ukraine willing to let you in to their hearts and start to share more about themselves.

The previously “cold” Slavic culture will become more much warm towards you. It’s important to note that, that it still can take time. While Ukrainian girls will share far more about themselves after intimacy has occurred, it’s still common for it to take weeks or months before she fully trusts you.

The feminine qualities of these girls will start to shine as you enter a relationship with them.

Her Family

Many Ukrainian girls are very close with their families. It’s customary to meet new boyfriends or girlfriends after about six months of dating.

If you end up in a situation where you’re going to meet your Ukrainian girlfriend’s family, be prepared to drink and eat a lot.

Dad is going to want to get you drunk to see if you can drink like a man. Ditto for any brothers, uncles, cousins, etc. present.

Mom, Grandma, sisters, and aunts are going to try to shove more food in your face than you’ve eaten all month. Your plate will hardly be empty for a second before one of them is getting up to get you more food. Hell, you need it to combat all the alcohol that Dad is pouring down your throat…

The point is, it’s a reasonably big deal to introduce a new romantic interest. It’s a big celebration, and they show their affection with food and drink.

You should be worried if Dad isn’t doing shots of alcohol with you.

And yes, you should bring flowers for Mom and a bottle of booze for Dad. Gifts are 100% acceptable.

Ukrainian Women: Conclusion

While they can be difficult at times, Ukrainian women are 110% worth the effort.

It’s rare to find the beauty, femininity, and overall elegance of Ukrainian women anywhere else in the world.

Don’t get me wrong, they’ll drive you crazy at times.

  • You’ll get sick of answering the questions.
  • You’ll grow tired of the tests.
  • You’ll wonder if it’s worth it all.

But then their beauty, both inner and outer, shines through. All of a sudden, all of the pain, heartache, and frustrations with Ukrainian women are absolutely worth it.

I’ve had amazing relationships with Ukrainian women, and I hope this article will help you to do the same.
