Best Hotels Close to the Tirana International Airport (Mother Teresa – Rinas Airport)

Choosing a hotel close to the Tirana International Airport (TIA) – also known as the Mother Teresa Airport or Rinas Airport – is a good idea if you have an early flight or a late arrival, only spending some time for a connecting flight or you only want to spend a few days in Albania’s capital.

It makes sense to stay here, if catching the next plane is important. Tirana’s traffic has become difficult in the past several years, so even though the airport is just 20 kilometers from the city center, that drive can easily turn into a stressful 60-minute crawl during peak hours.

If you value your sleep and sanity, staying in Rinas (the village where the airport is actually located) is the way to go.

And below are the absolute best hotels near the airport – my top recommendations, updated for this year to include the newest top-tier options that most older guides miss, along with the reliable classics.

mk hotel tirana

If you want the absolute best experience near the airport, this is currently the one to beat – but with a price to match that experience. The mk hotel is a German-managed property located in the Tirana Business Park, just a couple of kilometers from the terminal.

Unlike the other hotels on this list, which feel like “airport hotels,” this one feels like a resort. It features a fantastic outdoor pool, a high-quality fitness center, and modern, spacious rooms that are arguably the cleanest in the area.

Because it is set slightly back from the main road, it is significantly quieter than the hotels sitting right on the runway.

The Pros:

  • The Vibe: It feels upscale and brand new. The design is crisp, modern, and very “Western European” in standard.
  • Amenities: The pool area is a genuine place to relax, not just a decoration. They also have a tennis court and a great on-site steakhouse restaurant.
  • Shuttle: They offer a shuttle service to the terminal. While the hotel is technically walkable (about 15-20 minutes), I strongly recommend the shuttle or a quick taxi ride if you have luggage, as the road isn’t designed for pedestrians.

The Cons:

  • You can’t just roll out of bed and walk 100 meters to the check-in desk like you can with the Best Western (recommended below). You are a 3-5 minute drive away.
  • It’s expensive.

Best Western Premier Ark Hotel

This hotel sits practically across the street from the airport arrivals hall. For years, it has battled for the #1 spot, and frankly, you cannot go wrong by choosing it.

If your priority is to be as close as physically possible to the check-in counter without sleeping on the terminal floor, this is a top choice – and it is so because it doesn’t trade in any bits of quality.

The rooms are soundproofed surprisingly well given that you are next to a runway. The bathrooms are a standout feature here – many are huge, with plenty of counter space, which is a luxury when you’re trying to reorganize your luggage before a flight.

The Pros:

  • Location: You can see the airport from your window. You can walk there in 2-3 minutes.
  • Food: The breakfast is consistently excellent, with a wide variety of options to fuel you up before your flight.
  • Amenities: There is a pool and a gym, which are great for killing time during a long layover.

The Cons:

  • The pool is located near the parking area. While they’ve used hedges to create privacy, it doesn’t have the same “secluded” feel as the mk hotel.

Hotel Airport Tirana

Just like its name suggests, this hotel is a stone’s throw away from the airport. You can see the terminal and the planes from many of the rooms. If you are arriving late at night, the neon sign of this hotel is often the first thing you see after exiting the terminal.

It is a “real” 4-star hotel with highly skilled staff and a very professional atmosphere. It is widely considered one of the best choices for business travelers who need reliability.

The hotel also features a very nice outdoor pool and a garden area with a fountain, which is surprisingly relaxing for an airport location.

The Pros:

  • Zero Commute: You can walk to the terminal. However, if you have heavy bags, they do provide a shuttle (often just a quick van ride across the street) to save you the trouble.
  • Food: The restaurant here is top-notch. If you are staying here, you don’t need to go hunting for food elsewhere; the on-site dining is delicious.

The Cons:

  • The furniture in some rooms can feel a bit “classic” (read: slightly dated compared to the ultra-modern mk), but it is clean, functional, and very comfortable.

Hotel Verzaci

Hotel Verzaci is a legend among backpackers and budget travelers in Albania. It is one of the most affordable “proper” hotels (excluding hostels) within walking distance of the terminal.

The staff is very friendly and they speak English really well. You also get breakfast included in the price, which serves its purpose well. Although it’s nothing really Instagram-worthy, it does keep you well fed and you will surely find something good to eat there.

The biggest selling point here is the location-to-price ratio. It is just a few hundred meters from the airport – a 5-minute walk. You can literally watch planes take off from the hotel terrace.

The Reality Check:

  • Noise: Because it is so close to the runway and doesn’t have the heavy-duty soundproofing of the luxury hotels, you will hear the planes. If you are a light sleeper, earplugs are a must here.
  • Comfort: This is a 3-star hotel. The pillows might be a bit mushy, and the decor is simple. But it is clean, the staff is incredibly friendly, and breakfast is included.
  • Shuttle: While they are very close, they do offer shuttle assistance. However, since it’s such a short walk, it’s often faster to just walk unless you have massive suitcases.

N Hotel by Noshi

We are swapping out our previous recommendation (Albanopolis) for something that actually makes sense for airport travelers. N Hotel by Noshi has gained massive popularity recently for being modern, stylish, and incredibly close to the airport.

It is located just a short walk (about 10–15 minutes) or a 2-minute drive from the terminal. The design is sleek and contemporary – think minimalist vibes with great lighting (but also bath tub in the bedroom!)

Why choose this one?

  • It feels newer than the Verzaci and it’s still affordable.
  • The staff is friendly and the rooms are great.
  • Important Note: Taxis might refuse to take you here because the fare is so low (it’s too close!). You are better off arranging a transfer directly with the hotel or preparing for a short walk.

Final Recommendation

If you want the best overall experience with a resort feel, pick the mk hotel tirana. If you want the absolute best location (closest walk), pick Best Western Premier Ark or Hotel Airport Tirana. If you are saving money but want a reliable bed, Hotel Verzaci is your friend.

Safe travels and enjoy your stay in Albania!
