Guide to Filipino Men: Dating Style & Cheating, Looks & More

Filipino men are usually depicted as macho, strong, but also hard-working individuals who respect women in their lives. These are all true, plus more: prepare to learn everything about dating Filipino men in today’s article!

I want us to get a bit more in depth on the matter – and today’s article will give you a complete overview of the men in the Philippines and what to expect from them.

So how are Filipino men today, especially when it comes to relationships? Read on to find out!

Men in the Philippines – What are they like in a relationship?

Filipino men guide

I won’t start talking about their looks, because while that is important, how they behave in a relationship is also extremely important, especially when we’re considering the long term.

And in this regard, men in the Philippines may sometimes disappoint. At least if you are big on monogamy and not so much on poly relationships…

When it comes to the number of men who are cheating on their partners, Filipino men are considered among the worst in the world. Various surveys over the years have shown that more than 55% of the men cheat on their partners.

This means that it’s very likely that a bit more than 1 in two Pinoy men will cheat when in a relationship. Ouch!

And unfortunately that doesn’t apply only in the early stages of a relationship – those in long-term relationships too usually tend to roam away too!

It seems like they simply don’t know how to deal with whatever urges they have, so do keep this in mind before getting in a relationship with a man from the Philippines.

But I have an amazing, life-changing program for you to check out here: it will teach you all the things you need to know to make your dream Filipino man yours forever, without the risk of him cheating at all. Check it out here – you have nothing to lose!

However, if you are not very big on commitment and want to have fun rather than settle down in a monogamous relationship, then you will surely enjoy men in the Philippines.

After all, most of them are friendly and will happily give you their full attention, even though it won’t necessarily be exclusive.

Of course, I am generalizing here and I don’t want to put a stigma on men in this great country. (Or the women from Philippines, for that matter.)

Many of them will never even consider cheating on their partners, but we all know that it’s usually the bad traits that tend to stick when describing somebody. And it’s always better to be prepared than sorry.

Men in the Philippines – Their Looks

The Philippines is one of the most diverse countries in terms of physical looks. A typical Filipino man can be tall and lean, short and chubby, or just right in-between.

But what do women think of them? Are they good looking? Do they have a type? It’s difficult to generalize, but that’s the purpose of the article so I will try to do it. Do have in mind that there are exceptions to what I am stating below, as always.

So, even though we have already agreed upon the fact that men in the Philippines come in all sizes and shapes, we do have to admit that they are generally on the shorter side. In fact, the average height of a Filipino man is 5’4″ (163 cm).

So for the ladies out there who like their men tall and slender, The Philippines is not the best place to go searching for Mr. Right.

However, if you don’t really care about the height aspect so much, you’ll be happy to find out that men here have a lot of other advantages.

In terms of actual looks, men in the Philippines have a certain style that makes them very pleasant to the eye. It’s hard to describe, but it’s sort of like an Asian version of a hipster.

In other words, Filipino men like to look good and are always on the lookout for new ways to improve their appearance.

I would go as far as saying than men from the Philippines have more in common with men from Venezuela – or any other South American country – than they do with fellow Thai men or others from the region.

For many Filipino men, a haircut is not just a haircut. It’s an experience that requires time and attention. Same goes for clothes: they have to match and look good on them.

Even if many people here don’t earn a ton (at least by Western standards), they will always do their best to smell nice, look good at all times and be very pleasant to look at. And they are!

I wrote an in-depth guide about dating in Asia as a foreigner and even though it’s generally aimed at the male audience of the blog, it won’t hurt to try to read it as well. Or simply move online and try one of my recommended dating sites.

Men in the Philippines – The Money Issue

filipino man thinking

We have talked about how Filipino men look and behave when it comes to relationships, but let’s talk money now.

After all, it’s important for you to know what you are getting into when you are with someone, especially if you’re considering a long term commitment.

Here’s the thing: most men in the Philippines are not rich, even if they present themselves as such.

They will hide their real job and pretend to be doing something better for a long time or just try to fool you with wearing clothes that they don’t really afford.

It’s something that people do in many countries – especially the poorer ones. When you grow up poor (and I am talking from personal experience), it’s difficult not to want to show the world that you are rich, even if you’re not. And this is a problem that many men here suffer from.

This can cause serious problems down the road, as I already said it. But financial education is not a main focus in the country, so prepare for it.

Generally, men here are more on the traditional side and consider themselves responsible for being the breadwinners in the family.

With the Philippines being a relatively poor country compared to others (and a very cheap one to live in under $500 per month!) and especially if you come from a richer foreign country, he might feel like he’s a bit inferior and would try to overcompensate.

But this is just how things are and usually a solid talk about the financial aspect will solve any potential problems.

In the end, when it comes to relationships, even though money do matter, they shouldn’t be ALL that matters.

Make sure you tell him what you think and, even though it might be a bit difficult at first, I am sure he will understand.

And also remember that cost of living in the Philippines is lower than in many other countries.

If you’re curious to find out more about it, check out my previous article going in depth with the cost of living in Cebu, Philippines.

Conclusion

While many people rush to label Filipino men as unfaithful, lazy and difficult to be in a relationship with, this isn’t always the case. On the contrary!

The men in the Philippines are very good-looking, fun to be around and will put a lot of effort into their appearance and helping you have a good time in their company. They also strive to make dating fun and take their masculine role very seriously.

So if you don’t care too much about the height of your partner, it’s not impossible (on the contrary, I would say) to find a nice man there, no matter if you’re looking for a long term relationship or a quick fling.

  1. Hi Calin. Thank you for this article. Can I ask if you can please share your source for the survey/s indicating 55% of Filipino men cheat.

I don’t disagree with it (based on observable reality) but I just want to be factual when I direct others to this stat…thanks.
